A Cultural Resources Survey for the Proposed El Paso Natural Gas 2039 Line Relocation/Removal, Southwest Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona

Author(s): Lourdes Aguila

Year: 1999

Summary

At the request of Sheila F. Castellano of El Paso Natural Gas Company (EPNG), Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted a cultural resources survey of approximately 234 acres of private land for the proposed EPNG 2039 pipeline relocation/removal project. The survey, conducted under non-collection permit 99-15BL issued by Arizona State Museum (ASM), was to provide an inventory and assessment of cultural resources that might be impacted by the construction. One new archaeological site (AZ T:12:114(ASM)), portions of a previously recorded site (AZ T:12:116(ASM)), the historic Roosevelt Canal, and six isolated occurrences were identified. No surface evidence was found of the historic Farmers Canal or the numerous prehistoric canals that have been projected to cross the project area.
