Peacekeeper Program Cultural Resources Technical Report 3: Southeastern Wyoming Prehistory, Volume 1

Part of the F.E. Warren AFB Project Metadata project

Author(s): Tetra Tech Inc.

Year: 1987

Summary

The report is the result of efforts by a number of individuals from two different firms. URS-Berger began preliminary evaluation of cultural resources for the Peacekeeper Program in 1983. Archaeological survey, testing, and mitigation studies were conducted in 1984 and 1985. The analysis of site and artifact data was done in 1984 and 1985, and the draft prehistoric report was completed early in 1985. In March 1985, Tetra Tech, Inc. succeeded URS-Berger as the Air Force consultant, and some former URS-Berger staff were retained during the completion of draft final reports. Tetra Tech's primary task has been the production of the final report, and editorial changes to the draft report have been kept to a minimum. The report is divided into two volumes. Volume I contains the main text and Volume II the appendices to the main volume. The fieldwork, undertaken between June 1983 and October 1984, included archaeological survey, subsurface shovel testing, surface collection, test excavation, and mitigation excavation. Seventeen prehistoric sites and 34 isolated artifacts were located on F.E. Warren AFB, and 26 prehistoric sites and 26 isolated artifacts were identified in the DA north and east of Cheyenne. This report is a detailed descriptive summary of all prehistoric data. It is designed to provide sufficient primary data for other researchers to test their own hypotheses about prehistoric systems in the region. Most summaries and comparisons employ only descriptive statistics. Because of the small sample sizes of most assemblages, the use of inferential statistics was not attempted.
