The following is a summary of excavations of Unit 35 at Flying Fish Village, LA 37767. The site is located on the first terrace above the floodplain on the south side of Seco Creek. The Seco is a drainage of the Black Range, flowing into the Rio Grande to the east. This site contains several one-story masonry roomblocks, as well as some possible isolated rooms associated with the Mimbres Classic period. In addition, there is a smaller occupation on the hill directly south of the site.

Unit 13 was a relatively small rectangular room (2.5 x 4.3 = 10.8 square meters) single story room in what was called the South Two-Story section of the Postclassic pueblo at Las Animas Village. Its size and the absence of a hearth suggest that Unit 13 served as a storage room. It was repeatedly remodeled, as indicated by three floor layers. Units 11 and 12 on the Las Animas site (LA 3949) are located next to each other on the extreme southeastern portion of the Black Mountain phase roomblocks. Unit eleven's eastern wall was readily apparent as a double course row of large river cobbles, while Unit 12 covered an area immediately to the northwest of Unit 11. Site LA3949 is located on a mesa top, a first bench, overlooking the Las Animas drainage. A smaller creek-bed running approximately north-south lies along the north and east of the site. It was initially defined as a habitation room based on surface evidence of large cobble wall alignments and wall fall. Unit 4 is a shallow depression which is cut into the bedrock conglomerate at 85NM612. The depression is spatially located beneath two pueblo rooms (Units 1 and 2) which are visible on the surface of the site (see figure 1). The depression extends beyond the western walls of the pueblo rooms therefore the edges of Unit 4 which were located west of the surface rooms were not defined during the 1991 excavations.
