National Science Foundation (NSF) Funded Works

advanced

This collection brings together a selection of archaeological research data, documents, and images produced through support from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The NSF requires that funded projects prepare data management plans (DMPs) that ensure research products are accessible, reusable, and preserved for long-term use. In line with these requirements, the materials in this collection reflect the wide range of outputs generated by NSF-supported archaeology projects, including field documentation, analytical datasets, reports, and related digital resources.

The collection demonstrates NSF’s commitment to open science by supporting the dissemination of primary data, derived products, and associated research materials within two years of collection, barring ethical or legal restrictions. It also reflects best practices outlined in NSF data management guidance, such as transparent fieldwork coordination, documentation of collections and samples, and the use of trusted repositories for preservation and access. The collection preserves important archaeological resources and makes them available for ongoing research, teaching, and reuse by scholars, CRM practitioners, Tribal communities, and the public.
