In August 2002, workers excavating holes for the fence posts surrounding building 250 uncovered the remains of poured concrete foundations about 18" below the present surface, running in an east-west direction. Remains were found in three places. In all cases, the 36-inch drill just nicked the edge of the foundation, resulting in little damage. On March 28, 1994, Rick Bryant monitored the trenching operations for a sprinkler system. The area had been extensively disturbed by construction and use of the Warren Bowl, a sports stadium built in the 1930s. The stadium was razed and the ground leveled in the early 1960s. No remains of the stadium or any archeological materials can be expected to remain in situ in the area.

On April 18th, 1996, Rick Bryant monitored grading and leveling of the new housing area located on the East, north and west sides of the present Capehart Housing. The top soil over the area was removed and stored on the edge of the work site. Several artifact concentrations and two structure foundations were identified. Locations are shown on the attached area map. Site 48LA71, a World War I and World War II era rifle range, is located across the road to the north of the work area.

On March 11, 1995, I monitored excavation of a sewer pipe west of Bldg 202 in FamCamp. A 6 inch tile sewer line was being replaced with a 6 inch pvc line. The trench was about four feet wide and four feet deep and 15 feet long (east to west). The trench profile showed the area had been filled in the past, as there were several layers of soils with construction debris in them.
